Online Education
Today is the second day of online classes for the history courses that I have written for a local online school. At first, not a single kid signed into class, even though they were on my roster. Then, a few signed in and looked around, and signed off. It wasn't until today that someone finally started making a few attempts at it-- and one kid did part of the week's work and went straight to next week (which I have now blocked). It seems that students are wanting something different. I have received an email form a student saying they "don't have a clue" about what to do, and few others have actually even introduced themselves. I have a very discouraged feeling about this, as I also wrote a class in the same format, which another instructor is teaching-- who doesn't seem to be so familiar with 21st Century Learning. I don't know why I didn't speak up-- it's not the class that makes it a 21st Century Learning experience, but rather the facilitation of the course. My fear is that he will struggle in my design-- geesh, even I am struggling in my design and I made it! My fingers are crossed for tomorrow.
